In the years after Hurricane Katrina, the lives of New Orleans guitarists Joe Applebalm and Jerry Elsworth follow wildly divergent paths. They both end up in New York, but while the success of Jerry’s memoir ‘Hometown Heroes’—and the subsequent TV show based on the book—brings him fame, fortune, and a life of luxury, Joe, wondering bitterly where he went wrong, languishes in day-job oblivion. 01.08.10'Ghosts of Music, Past' reviewed in the January '10 Offbeat Magazine
'Ghosts of Music, Past' got a rave review in the January '10 Offbeat Magazine. Aaron LaFont writes:
"En route to becoming one of the most promising and captivating guitarists in the jazz world, seven-string master Davy Mooney managed to stash away a large cache of songs. On his first non-instrumental release, Ghosts of Music, Past, the first local grad from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz divulges a wistful set of jazz-flecked folk numbers. Evocative and emotional, exquisite and elegiac, here the perspicacious artist proves his poetry is as perceptive as his playing."
And it goes on...
11.30.09Astoriano reviewed in December '09 Jazz Times
'Astoriano' just received a rave review in the December '09 Jazz Times. The great Bill Milkowski writes:
....Mooney reveals himself as a fingerstyle, chordal player of the highest order as well as a burning single-note picker. He nimbly integrates both aspects here--cascading lines with rich chordal voicings--often at the same time; a neat trick that only a few (those coming out of the Joe Pass school) can successfully pull off....
'Astoriano' is available at these online outlets in disc form:
CD Baby, Amazon , NorthCountry Distributor (email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org)
And as a download here:
